A Pirate for Buni

Can you see what this is?
How about these?
According to Buni these are pirates. I’m so amazed how far she’s come with her artwork. This is the first time she has ever drawn something that has eyes and a mouth. I am assuming that the tentacles coming out of the head must be the pirates hair. Such attention to detail.
Here are some more pictures that Buni has brought home from her Montessori school.
I didn’t notice it until recently that Buni likes to draw in multiples.
Can you see the waves and the sand. I think it’s so cool that she distinguishes between the sand and waves in her drawings. These drawings are two of five drawings she’s made of her favorite place in the world: the beach.
Rainbow Sorting Bowls

Lately I’ve been in a really crafty mood and I decided to finally take the time to make Buni a set of Rainbow Sorting Bowls that are so popular on Etsy and various other blogs.
I purchased a set of wooden bowls and acorns from Wee Folk Art, sanded them down a bit and painted them with some watercolors I had lying around. The result was much nicer than I expected. Buni seems to really like playing with them although she is more into counting the acorns than sorting them.
I made a draw string bag to store the acorns and bowls. Buni was delighted that she got to pick out the ribbon for the bag. I will probably have to make a bigger bag since this one is a bit small.
I also got around to making a pillowcase for her little pillow. Again Buni was happy with what I made and that she has a pillow to call her own. I guess she is finally at the stage where she can express her opinions and so far she’s been happy with Mama-Buni’s creations. Of course I was dumb enough to ask her what she would like me to make for her and Buni says: “A dress!”
*Sigh* We’ll see about that.
A Princess in her Castle

A little princess in her castle who was busy coloring until her mama interrupted her.
Who then became shy while showing a picture of her latest watercolor creation.
Lastly, a picture of my completed duct tape bag that I made for Buni. Buni wasn’t as thrilled as I was with the results.
Took less than hour to complete and I am smitten. I foresee more duct tape bags, flowers and perhaps a duct tape lunch bag for myself in the future. Time for a trip to Target and Joanns. Happy weekend!
Kid Made Modern: Target

Buni loves her art supplies. Give her paint, crayons, markers and some paper and she’s ready to go. Right now we are loving Todd Oldham’s line of arts and crafts products based on his Kid Made Modern book. I don’t know who was more excited when we found the display at the local Target. Buni or me? Probably me.
As you can see I already have a project lined up. A duct tape messenger bag for Buni using the duct tape set from Todd Oldham.
Tried out the watercolor set with Buni and I’m surprised with the quality of the paint, paintbrushes and the watercolor paper pad. The colors are bold and the paper is thick. You can see my painting alongside Buni’s. I just might buy myself a set.
I found the printed tape set, which reminds me of washi tape. I’m still on the look out for the solid colored tape set. May have to stalk the other Targets for it. The Todd Oldham line has many other products so check it out and especially check out the book that started it all: Kid Made Modern for lots of ideas.
Road Trip Orlando: Universal Studios Islands of Adventure 2012

As a special request from my mom who has not seen these pictures yet. I present to you our Universal Studios pictures.
The highlight of our trip (IMHO) was Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. I have been looking forward to this visit for awhile ever since the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened. So as soon as we got there we headed straight to Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which happened to be at the very back of the park.
We headed through the gates of Hogsmeade.
Past the conductor and the replica of the Hogwarts Express train.
Walked by the wizards and witches selling Butterbeer.
Peeked inside Deervish & Banges.
Briefly listened to the awesome choir and their ribbiting toads.
Straight to Hogwarts Castle to ride Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey, which was the worlds most awesome simulator ride ever. I cannot begin to describe this ride nor do I want to spoil for anyone. Just ride it. When we first showed up the wait was only 20 minutes and I ran inside to line up (Mister and I had to take turns riding rides because Buni was too small to go). My tip is to go on the single rider line, which is so much faster. Look up as you walk in and you’ll see a sign that points to the left that says single riders. You will have to go down a dark corridor, some steps and then you will rejoin the regular line only you’ll be in a separate line in the middle. Trust me this is so much faster. Mister made the mistake of joining the regular (groups of 2 and up line) and ended up waiting almost 45 minutes to ride.
While Buni and I waited for Mister we rode a kiddie roller coaster right across from the Forbidden Journey ride called Flight of the Hippogriff. Sadly Mister wasn’t around to take pictures of Buni riding her first big girl roller coaster, but managed to snap this bad photo of the ride. Buni loved the ride. Such a daring girl who was braver than her momma.
Afterwards, we stopped by and purchased some butterbeer and various Harry Potter items (to be featured later), waited for Mister to ride the Dragon Challenge roller coast and later left the Wizarding World.
After stopping by to watch the 8th Voyage of Sinbad and having lunch.
We headed to Seuss landing where Buni rode every single ride.
Where we got wet riding one fish, two fish.
Took pictures with Thing 1 and Thing 2. Buni was asleep at the time, but I thought the Things were still pretty funny.
Had lunch here.
And ran into the Cat in the Hat, which terrified Buni. I guess she prefers the cartoon versions to the live versions.
In the end Buni still wanted more so we walked around Seuss landing some more before heading towards Marvel Super Hero Island where Mister road the Hulk roller coaster three times.
There was no wait for this ride so Mister was really lucky since he claims that it was awesome. Guess we lucked out that everyone was still in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter instead of Marvel Island.
Then we met up with Wolverine and took some pictures. I don’t think Buni was impressed.

Mister also got to pose with his idol: Iron Man.
And we both got a chance to ride the Spider Man ride.
It ended up to be a long day. Afterwards Lolo and Lola met us at Universal City Walk and we had some delicious shrimp at Bubba Gumps. Stay tuned for even more posts.
Road Trip Orlando: Magic Kingdom 2012

Ahhh. The Magic Kingdom. Don’t get me wrong. The Magic Kingdom is great if you have kids, but I personally would not voluntarily come here, but since we had Buni and Lola Nena in tow it was one of our stops using our Disney Hopper pass. We visited all the major spots like Cinderella’s Castle. Please ignore the giant crane in the background.

Disney Mainstreet.
Tommorowland. Notice me gripping the sides tightly as Buni and I ride the Astro Orbiter. Do not ride the Astro Orbiter if you are prone to vertigo.
Despite the weather being a sweltering 80 degrees. Buni managed to wear the Mickey Mouse hat that her Lola crocheted for her.
We stopped by and rode some other rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin, Haunted Mansion (lame!), the Railroad, Space Mountain (can’t believe I rode this roller coaster, which is really bumpy), and watched shows like Enchanted Tiki Room, Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, Swiss Family Treehouse (not really a show), Mainstreet Electrical Parade and The Hall of Presidents (I recommend taking time to see this because I can’t believe all the people in it are animatronics (aka robots)).
Surprisingly, we managed to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie. At the entrance to the park there is building on your right side that advertises a Mickey Magic show and a Disney Princess show. Mister and I went there by ourselves since Buni, Mom, Dad and Lola Nena were busy riding the “It’s A Small World” ride. We stupidly thought we were going to watch a Magic Show and ended up in a room full of people taking photos with Mickey and Minnie. So here is our picture.
We tried to stick around until the fireworks, but we were so tired from being there all day. Plus, Buni passed out and fell asleep. We did manage to watch the show in front of Cinderella’s castle and take pictures.
Even more Orlando pictures coming soon.
Road Trip Orlando: Epcot 2012

Sorry that I am so behind on pictures. It has been almost a month since we’ve been back from Orlando and I’m just suffering from warm weather withdrawal. To keep it short and to the point here are some pictures from my second favorite place we visited: Disney Epcot.
We went around the world in a day. First stop: Morocco! Where we got some yummy Moroccan food and watched a belly dancer perform.
Next stop: China.
Lets not forgot my all time favorite place to visit: Japan. I would have had more pictures here, but I spent over an hour in the Mikado store looking at all sorts of japanese goods. I especially loved the Studio Ghibli section and the kawaii japanese bags.
A quick stop in Mexico where Lola Nena modeled an awesome hat.
Lets not forget what Buni’s favorite activity was during the whole trip to Epcot. Feeding the birds while we were in Norway.
We stuck around until it got dark and got to go on the Spaceship Earth ride, Captain EO (Michael Jackson was awesome), test track, talking with Crush from Finding Nemo and the Grand Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros ride in Mexico. I still wish we had more time to try out the Soarin ride Mission Space. Hopefully next time.
